The two costs to know about

Getting your pool or spa compliant involves two separate costs:

Our inspection fee

A flat $170 ex GST for the VBA-registered barrier inspection and, on a pass, your Form 23 — no hidden extras.

Your council's lodgement fee

A separate fee set by and paid to your local council when the pool is registered and the certificate lodged. It varies by council.

What affects the price

  • The type of barrier — fence, boundary fence, windows or doors
  • Site access and how far we travel within our service area
  • Whether a re-inspection is needed to check any fixes
  • Whether it is a single home, or a body-corporate / commercial site

We give you a fixed quote before we attend — no surprises. For the full cost, checklist and requirements, see our cost & guides overview.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a pool compliance certificate cost in Melbourne?

Our barrier inspection is a flat $170 ex GST, and if your barrier passes we issue the Form 23 at no extra charge. Your council also charges a separate lodgement fee, paid to the council when the certificate is lodged. Because access and barrier type vary, we confirm an upfront price before we attend — call 0423 090 211.

What is included in the price?

The flat $170 ex GST covers the on-site barrier inspection against the applicable Victorian standard and, on a pass, the Form 23 Certificate of Barrier Compliance. It does not include your council's own lodgement fee, or any repairs your barrier might need to comply.

Is there a separate council fee?

Yes. Registering a pool or spa and lodging the Form 23 involves a council fee that is set by, and paid to, your local council. It is separate from our inspection fee and varies between councils.

What if my barrier fails — is a re-inspection extra?

If the barrier does not pass first time we give you a clear list of what to fix. A re-inspection to check the fixes may apply; we tell you the cost upfront so there are no surprises.

Should I just pick the cheapest pool inspection?

A Form 23 can only be issued by a VBA-registered building inspector or surveyor, so make sure whoever you book is registered. A cheap inspection that misses a fault, or a certificate that is not valid to lodge, can cost far more at settlement.
