The two costs to know about

Getting your pool or spa compliant involves two separate costs:

Keeping those two apart is the single most useful thing to understand about the price, because they are paid to different people for different things. Ours is a service you book. The council's is an administrative charge you cannot avoid and we cannot include — we never handle it, and no inspector can waive it. When a quote elsewhere looks unusually low, it is worth asking which of the two it covers.

What makes our side predictable is that it does not move with the size of the pool, the type of fence, or how long the inspection takes. A small courtyard spa and a large in-ground pool with a boundary fence are the same flat $170 ex GST. There is no call-out fee, no charge for issuing the Form 23 on a pass, and no surcharge for a barrier that turns out to be complicated.

The cost most people worry about is the one that does not exist: paying twice because the barrier fails. It does not work that way. If something needs adjusting you get a written list, you fix it, and we come back and re-inspect at no extra charge. The failure costs you time, not a second inspection fee.

The other genuine cost is whatever the fixes themselves need — a new latch, a gate re-hung, a pot moved out of the climb zone. Those are usually small and often things an owner can do in an afternoon. Reading the compliance checklist before we visit is the cheapest way to avoid them altogether.
